Ali Khan Tareen has submitted nomination papers (January 2018 ) to contest by-election from NA-154, a National Assembly seat from Lodhran that was vacant after the disqualification of his father on Supreme Court orders.

Pir Iqbal Shah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won the seat with 1,16,590 votes with Ali Khan coming second with 91,230 votes . Ali Khan Tareen blamed overconfidence for his party’s upset defeat in the by-election of Lodhran.
